BBMP is organising awareness camps about VVPAT to teach people about it across the city.

Voter-verifiable paper audit trail technology, a new method to provide feedback to voters, will be used in Lok Sabha elections 2019. As it is a new thing for voters, Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) is organising various awareness camps across the city to give the demo to the people.

“We are giving a demo to people about how VVPAT works. You have to press the party that you are voting for, and you can see the same party symbol in the VVPAT machine. It takes 5-6 seconds to show and also generates a slip to the voters. We have put these kinds of camps in 10 different Metro stations today. And we will keep on putting these across all the metro stations and other significant places in the next ten days.” Mr. Lakshman R., one of the organizing members told The City Cast.

People are also saying that it is a good initiative by Election Commission and BBMP to aware them about the new technology.

“Earlier, it was difficult to know if our vote is going to the same party or not. And there have been many allegations by various parties about the voting forgery. However, this technology seems to be very helpful and easy to operate. And it is also clearly visible to us if who are we voting for. Though we are satisfied with it, it is only clear after the elections if it will be successful or not.” Rajesh Kumar, a person who saw demo said.

With elections approaching soon these kinds of events will help voters to understand the new technology and vote for their choice of candidate.
