Construction of the railway over bridge at Carmelaram level crossing has still not started.
Railways say that the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has not given its share along with 2585 Square meter of land which is needed for the construction of the bridge as it’s a cost sharing between them.
Madhu, from Railway Engineering Department says “Railway is ready but the BBMP is not giving the land and the share of Rs.30 crores which is needed for the construction. In every meeting they are simply telling we will arrange but till date it has not been done. ”
Railway says that the General Arrangement Drawing (GAD) has been approved and submitted to the chief engineer but land acquisition has to be done by the BBMP then only it can be executed.
Jaishankar Reddy, an executive engineer in BBMP says, “We have sent it to the railway department. We have paid the amount. BBMP have paid the amount. Construction and all will be taken up by the railways only.”
The South Western Railways (SWR) sanctioned Rs.48.16 crore for the Carmelaram Railway over Bridge (ROB) at level crossing gate number 132 in 2020.
Prof.M.N.Shreehari, a traffic, transportation, infrastructure, urban development, planning and design expert says, “The Carmelaram Junction was already sanctioned by railways but unfortunately when the road gets widened again it becomes a hindrance that’s why they told that first the road should be widened then only we can adjust for the railway over bridge.”
Krishna J, an auto driver says, “A lot of traffic is there. If train comes then we get stuck so we get late. What to do, can’t do anything that road is like that from many days. Full road is in bad condition.”
As it is a major crossing which connects to Sarjapur Road, ORR, Varthur and Gunjur, it creates problems to the commuters as it gets very congested due to traffic as its one of the busiest areas.
