Over six lakh people will be participating in this year’s Karaga festivities

Karaga is one of the oldest community festivals celebrated in the first month of the Hindu lunar calendar. Celebrations have started in Dharmaraya Swamy Temple in Nagarthapet.

“Last year we had a record of more than 6.5 lakh people participating in Karaga festival.  This time there is going to be more people than last year. This time we are not announcing any chief guest’s name because of model code of conduct”, said Challikere Narayanaswamy, Zilla Darmika Parishad Member.

“I am attending Karaga festival from last few years. The celebration happens at different places of the city every day during this time”, said Prasad Kumar, a devotee.

Karaga is celebrated in Darmaraya Swamy temple since 1921.  Usually, it is celebrated on the first full moon day of the Hindu calendar. Usually, the festival falls in the month of March or April.
