IT city fourth in diabetes prevalence. Bengaluru is soon becoming diabetes capital of Karnataka.
According to Indian council of medical research IMCR 11.8% people are diabetic in India out of which 25% are fron Bangalore.
Dr.Hemanth , MD, general physician in RajaRajeshwari Hospital and medical college, says “The number of patients with diabetes are escalating”.
Similarly, Dr N Kavitha Bhat, Senior Consultant: Pediatric Endocrinology and Diabetes, Aster RV Hospital, after the pandemic, there has been a surge in cases of diabetes type 1.The respiratory infections, including covid-19, trigger the the activation of the immune system against the insulin-producing beta cells of the pancreas, resulting in diabetes.
Patient Preethi, who went for a regular check up says “I came here for a checkup since I was not feeling well, and after the doctor ran some tests, he discovered that I have diabetes.”
According to The International Diabetes Foundation One in six people with diabetes in the world is from India.
Dr.Ananya Balraj , MD, general physician , told about some preventive majors for diabetes,he said “People should follow healthy food habits, regularexercise, follow up if you are diabetic and regular screening.”
