The BBMP promised bus shelters, still, the citizens of Bengaluru are deprived of it.

Out of 2122 bus shelters planned in Bengaluru by Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP), less than a 1000 have been constructed so far.  Link to evidence if possible.

Bhupendra Singh, an IT employee said, “I have to wait almost 20-25 min for the bus while boarding back to my house and I can’t sit at the bus stop because there are no seats and some of them are so dirty that you won’t even feel like sitting.”

The under-construction bus shelters at 152 different locations around the city is cause inconvenience to commuters.

Praveen Lingaiah, Executive Engineering Cell (BBMP) said, “So 2122 are the bus stops and where ever space is available we will put the shelters. In all 2122 stops, we can’t put bus shelters. There is no space in the footpath. We have asked for the new list from the BMTC.”

The BBMP’s plan to build equipped and well-maintained bus shelters was mooted almost three years ago.

George Kuruvilla, an urban planner said, “Bus shelters are meant to be built on the sidewalks. Where ever they have land they should build it. Even earlier they built it, so why can’t they make a few more?”

Despite constant complaints, the voices of commuters are still unheard of by the authorities.
