Lack Of Security At KSR Railway Station Poses Threat To Passengers

Lack of proper security checks at KSR Railway station parking lot is a threat for the security
of passengers

Over 2.5 lakh daily commuters at KSR railway station are exposed to improper
security measures at the station’s parking area which poses a threat to their lives.
Passengers say anybody or any vehicle can enter inside station complex without being
checked. The station lacks adequate manpower, sniffer dogs and UVSS system.

Tufail Khan, a passenger, said “there is no security at the main gate of KSR station. There are
two guards who are standing at the gate, but they don’t bother to check the passengers and
their luggage. Anybody can easily get inside the complex.”

An official of the Railway Protection Force (RPF) said, “The main problem is lack of funds.
There is not enough money for using technology for the security purpose. We have a lack of
manpower. We need more personnel for surveillance of the premises. We do have a sniffer
dog which helps in detecting explosive devices and arms. But sometimes, it’s not enough.”
He added, “The construction of UVSS (Under Vehicle Surveillance system) has been pending
for over five years. If it gets completed, cars will be scanned before entering the parking lot
premises. We need funds for that. However, we will be installing facial recognition system at
parking lots within three months. And that will be helpful in identification of people.”
V.N. Rai, retd. IPS officer has said that the principle of Access Control should be used to
secure a place. “The principle is access control. This principle is used to determine the level
of threat of a place. Security can be improved through manpower and use of technology. If
the threat is present, then money should be spent to secure the place.”
