“I am from Assam. I am leaving here for the last 6 years. My children work as housekeepers. They
came with JCB and demolished everything. They didn’t give any notice. They broke all the shops and
ruined everything. I have lost items worth 60 thousand. Currently, I am staying in friends' place on
the other side of the slum.” He added.

Last week authorities cut the water supply of the area. People purchase private water tankers and pay
100 rupees each day which is huge money for them.
Lokman Haqim, a resident said, “I earn only 11000 thousand so we can’t afford to rent a flat. Hence
we pay 3000 thousand and live in this slum. Now the government is breaking this slum. So where we
would go with all these items if the government will break this slum.”
Ramesh, a leader of the Communist Party of India (CPI) says that BJP is discriminating with Indian
citizens on the basis of their religion. CPI stands with these poor people and condemns the action of
BBMP, he added.
