The Supreme Court refused to entertain the CPM’s plea against the demolition being carried
out by the South Delhi Municipal Corporation in Shaheen Bagh.

Delhi: Shaheen Bagh, which was a locality of prominence during the anti-citizenship law protest a
few years ago has made headlines again as a demolition drive was carried out there today morning.
Protests erupted in the area against the municipal body’s anti-encroachment drive. Bulldozers were
brought to the area to carry out the demolition. Hundreds of people gathered to protest amid a
huge number of police personnel present there.

Adesh Kumar Gupta, Delhi BJP Chief, said in an interview, “Congress and AAP supporting terrorist,
illegal immigrants like Rohingyas.” He added that the people would not forgive the parties for their
supposed stance on the demolitions. Delhi BJP leader Kapil Mishra called Shaheen Bagh “mini-Pakistan” in a tweet.

Congress leader Imran Pratapgarhi in an interview said that illegal immigrants were living in Delhi is a
failure of the Home Minister, and that he should resign. The Supreme Court refused the plea of CPI(M) on grounds of a political party approaching the court.

SC asked the party to approach the Delhi High Court instead.
The Delhi Civic Body said that it was not targeting any particular community and such drives will
continue until a stay order is issued by the court.
