The rise in the demand for protein-based supplements is bringing a change in general health.

The demand for protein-based supplements is increasing by 15% from 2015-2023 bringing about a change in dietary and general health. Vitamins and minerals occupy 40% of the share in the Indian dietary supplement market. Whey protein segment accounts for higher protein supplement market share since it promotes overall body growth and muscle building says the nutritionist. Rising health, consciousness, rapid growth of the e-commerce market is driving the growth of the dietary supplements market in India.

Raj Jaiswal, a consumer, says “ I have a busy schedule, so it becomes difficult for me to maintain my diet. In order to cope up with my daily diet, I take Whey protein with one scoop of it that gives 24gms of protein.”

Protein powders can be a beneficial supplement for many people, especially for athletes, older adults, vegetarians, as they are a source of complete protein. A 2018 study reported that taking protein supplements with meals is more effective for weight management and reducing fat mass than taking them between meals.

Dr. Pramila.B, a nutritionist says, “  A potential reason to supplement with protein powder is in fact that you are not intaking enough protein from food. I would suggest whey protein powder because it has the highest efficiency ratio of the powder types and is most easily used by the body.”

People who supplement their diet with protein powder should choose a high-quality protein. High protein intake may increase ammonia levels in the blood, which may damage the brain. The Gym Instructor guides by saying, “It is better to have knowledge about the protein supplements before using it in order to calculate their nutritional needs.
It is an essential macronutrient that helps build muscles. People who find it challenging to meet the amounts recommended daily intake of vegans and vegetarians may find protein powder as an easy solution to their problem. In India, protein supplements are priced high, making it quite expensive for consumption on a regular basis by the lower middle class and rural population of the country.

People need fast results for which the consumption of protein supplements are rising. Consumption of nutrition products for maintaining fitness is essentially required as it provides appropriate balanced nutrition for sports and bodybuilding needs to an extent.
