Illegal parking on footpath compelling people to walk on roads. Pedestrians in Bangalore complain that footpaths are increasingly being used to park vehicles in commercial areas.

Priyanka C, a pedestrian of Kormangala says, “very recently when I was walking on footpath nearby, one biker came and hit me from the back”. In addition to that a resident of whitefield, D. Ramana said it is extremely difficult for senior citizens like him to walk on footpath if it is taken up by vehicles.
Traffic police register the parking in no parking zone case under IPC 283. Ravi.S , Head Constable , Halsuru traffic police station says, “They say that the buildings don’t have designated parking places, when we did further investigation we found out that the building owners use parking lots for goods storage.” Halsuru traffic police station registered 985 cases, Indranagar 894 and Kormangala 993 cases from January to march 2022.
According to the guidelines of Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) it is mandatory for every complex to have a parking lot. However, the complex owners use parking lots for the storage of goods.
According to Meenal Dhatrak, Urban Planner, Urban Paradigm Pvt.Ltd , “An accurate structure of a building definitely consist of parking lots, whenever we design any complex we include footpaths, people who park on footpaths should be fined.”
