As fertility rates drop, India witnesses a sharp hike in the number of IVF treatments availed.

Bengaluru: The number of IVF cycles per couple is estimated to increase from 1.5 in 2015 to 3.5 in 2022 according to a report by Outlook India. There is 20% of compound annual growth rate in fertility segment through the last 5 years in India.

National Family Health Survey 5 says fertility rates across Karnataka dropped from 1.8 children per woman in 2015-16 to 1.7 in 2019-20. This rate less than the ideal replacement rate of 2.1.

Lifestyle habits, late marriages and obesity are some of the causes of infertility. Doctors say that IVF success rates lie between 40 and 50 percent.

As fertility rates keep falling, more women give IVF treatments a try.
