The distribution of the second set of uniforms is delayed by 2 months govt. school students are still waiting to receive it.

The students of government schools in Karnataka have not received the second set of uniforms this year, as per the guidelines of the Right to Education Act. They are forced to wear the same uniform every day, which is unhygienic. They say the uniforms do not dry in time if they are washed.

Nandini, a student of a government school said, “We are provided with only one set of uniforms; another set is yet to be distributed. We are wearing this one set every day. Please provide us as early as possible.”

Every year, the government is supposed to provide two sets of uniforms with stationery, books, shoes, and socks to all students from class 1st to 10th studying in government and aided school. But this year children have been forced to manage with one set.

Rekha, Block Resource Centre, Education Department, Govt. of Bangalore South said, “We still have no updates from the government of Karnataka. The uniforms were not given last year as well. We are waiting for the govt. to distribute the uniform. Before two days we have received the shoes. We are waiting for the funds to be released by the government of Karnataka.”

While the schools are waiting for the funds to be released, the Primary and Secondary Education Minister of Karnataka S Suresh Kumar has said that there is a shortage of funds, so asked that students wait for the next budget.

Shantala Damla, Women and Child activist said, “Considering hygiene, the government should immediately distribute the second set of uniform, as we are already near the end of the academic session. The government should provide uniforms and books on time; this will improve the quality of education in govt. schools.”
