Non renewal of licence of tourist guides

Archaeological Survey of India has banned the entry of guides in tourist place whose license is not renewed. These Guides have asked to apply again for license in the department of tourism. More than 20 tourist’s guides have become unemployed.

Many tourist guides who had been working from the last 15-20 years have become unemployed.  Now he tourism department of Karnataka will issue the license for the guides.

The tourism department of Karnataka says that many of these guides are not fulfilling the criteria required to be a government recognized tourist guide. Also, it will take 3-4 months to renew the license of these guides.

In July 2019 Archaeological survey of India implemented the order of the court and put a blanket ban on the entry of tourist guides whose license is irregular. Many of these tourist guides have license provided by Archeological Survey of India but they need the approval of department of tourism Karnataka.

Laxman , who has been working as a tourist guide from last 35 years said they were recognized by the government. Now he is not allowed to enter in any tourist place in Bangalore city.

Tourists are finding difficult in exploring the place like Tipu Sultan fort as only 3 guides are only permitted to enter the fort. Licenses of most of the tourist guides have not been renewed.

Gautham, PRO Archaeological survey of India told that ASI has banned the entry of only illegal guides. After renewal, these would again be allowed in the fort.

Now the onus is on tourism Department of Karnataka to renew their licenses and give back the livelihood of these guides.
