IMD officials clarify heavy rains in Karnataka are not related to cyclonic thunderstorms
Bengaluru : Weather forecast from the Indian Meteorological Department predicts Bangalore is expected to remain cloudy with one or two spells of rain.
This, after the city experienced heavy thunderstorms yesterday in areas like Kengeri and HSR layout.
Officials expect parts of Karnataka to receive heavy rainfall for the next 3 days.
“For South-interior Karnataka we are expecting more than 50mm of rainfall for the next 3 days. When thunderstorms occur, we have given gusty wind warnings in 1-2 places like how in JP Nagar it rained heavily but near HAL airport it didn’t. It all depends on the cloud movement,” said A Prasad, scientist at the Meteorological department in Bangalore
IMD officials clarify that the weather here isn’t related to the cyclonic thunderstorms.
“It’s not connected. The cyclonic thunderstorm has become a serious one in Bay of Bengal. We are expecting it to reach coastal parts of Andhra Pradesh, Odisha by 10th evening,” the official added.
Power cuts, loss of property were reported in Bangalore’s Kengeri and HSR layout.
