Many farmers who own less than 5 acres of land and who are eligible for Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojna (PMKSNY) are not able to get benefits from it. As the land they cultivate is not registered under their names.

“I don’t have property registration papers registered on my name. This land is on my father’s name,“  Nagaraju, a farmer from Devagere, said.

So far, only 15,057 farmers have been registered under the scheme from Bangalore rural district. Bangalore rural district has 3,32,730 farmers and 3,61,212 acres of agriculture land.

“Farmers under PM Kisan Yojna are divided into two, Farm C and Farm D. Farm C is the list of farmers we already have with us whereas Farm D is the list where new farmers that will be registering under this scheme. So far, 670 farmers from Kengeri Hobli have registered their names under this scheme,“  Ramanna, Agriculture officer, Kengeri, said.

Farmers have to submit their photo, adhaar card, bank passbook, and land document copies to get the benefits of the scheme. Many farmers are missing with one or other required documents.

“Registering property under your name takes more than two months. People trying to register properties under their name have increased because of this yojna. Officers who do property registration transfer ask for a bribe to complete the work soon. How can farmers afford to bribe?” s G H Kumaraswamy, Member of Grama Panchayath and Hasiru Sene farmers association, said.
